redwingschick Love all the albums thus far. Such a multitalented musician!
Hopefully some time in the future sheet music will be printed again or gathered to a big tune book. I’d buy it in a flash!

about

A rare combination of musical sounds and aesthetics reminiscent of ceilidhs, folk music traditions, and singer songerwriter genre, Jubilate offers 14 original tunes by Mary Vanhoozer that cover a range of moods and emotions: this musical journey will compel you to get up and dance, and calm your spirit and offer space for reflection and contemplation.

'The word 'Jubilate' means 'rejoice.' In light of our global pandemic and the upheaval in our nation over racial injustice, some might wonder whether now is the best time to release an album with such a name.

Joy does not mean happiness. Happiness is a response to particular occurrences or something in our present situation. Joy is a deeper peace that remains constant irrespective of our circumstances. Joy provides the deep background and resources for enduring and even flourishing amidst everyday struggles. I wrote one of the songs on this new album with this specific paradoxical dynamic in mind: combining the words, 'praise God!' with 'give us peace, Lord,' because so many of the psalms proclaim God's goodness and almost in the same breath call upon Him for rescue. In the midst of our current world events, this has been my prayer too.

"The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it" (John 1:5). The deep joy that sustains my music making is not based on circumstances, which will always be changing, but rather on the light that continues to shine, no matter how thick the darkness. As Samwise Gamgee (in The Lord of the Rings) says, “There’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it’s worth fighting for.” It's worth playing music for too.'
