about

I wrote this song as an exploration about homesickness: most often, it is not the place as much as the people that we miss. But more than that, homesickness is sometimes simply mourning change: the passing of time, the simple act of acknowledging that the relationships we hold dear — even while things in the present can be wonderful — are no longer the way they used to be. Somehow, deep down, it can feel like a tragic loss. It was interesting working on this song during the COVID19 pandemic, and wrestling with being separated from loved ones. The second verse which looks forward with hope to a future reunion became even more poignant through this experience.

lyrics

I see you
I hear your voice
I see you
Even when you're not here

You see me
You hear my voice
You see me
Even when I'm not there

Our homes are not the same
Sometimes I wish they were again
Just for a moment, my little hand in yours

I see you
I hear your voice
I see you
Even when you're not here

You see me
You hear my voice
You see me
Even when I'm not there

Separate but not alone
Reunion, a word that we own
Truth to anticipate, a piece to reclaim
