about

I am an avid reader, and one of my favorite novels in recent years is a book by Thomas Hardy: Far From the Madding Crowd. It is set in the 19th century, somewhere in the English countryside, and tells the story of people whose life is spent on the farm, tending crops and animals. The simplicity of living in nature and caring for the land remains a beautiful image for me. When I wrote Harvest Moon my imagination was held captive by the idea of a simpler life and simpler times, where folks looked to the humbler joys of bringing in a good harvest, preparing for the harvest feast, and enjoying good food, company, music and dancing. By the way: Far From the Madding Crowd is also a beautiful story about love, forgiveness, and faithfulness — I highly recommend reading it!
