This tune takes its inspiration from Appalachian folk music; I recorded two plucked fiddles and panned them left and right to draw listeners in and create a more intimate sound. When I was in my early teens, I remember having to get up early for school and not always being happy about it. My mum (knowing how getting out of bed could be difficult) prepared homemade breakfasts: she would light a candle by my place at the table and have a cup of hot tea and a warm apple muffin ready and waiting for me for when I came downstairs. Somehow, that simple gesture of getting up first and setting up a special breakfast helped me feel that the rest of the day would be ok. Many times since I’ve wondered at the power we all have to help comfort, fortify, and inspire those around us simply by creating beautiful spaces into which to invite them.
